Kate Burke’s experiences with Cay Galgon Life House began as a high school student in the 1980s. “I was lucky to know Cathy, because Dr. and Mrs. Galgon welcomed all their children’s friends to their home. Mrs. Galgon was an extraordinarily generous woman who expressed her faith and compassion when she helped us all with homework, snacks, and whatever else we needed.”

That spirit of generosity planted seeds in Kate’s heart that stayed with her through the years, shaping how she serves and welcomes others. Then, seven years ago, Kate and her husband attended their first Life House gala. “The creativity and community spirit totally captivated me,” she said, explaining it was her first exciting experience with a cake auction. “When Paula Albanese saw me at another Life House event, and asked if I’d like to get involved, my immediate response was, “Sure, what do you need help with?”

That question launched Kate into sorting donations, assembling auction baskets, and helping with event setup. “Hand me a design board, give me a theme, and that’s when my creativity comes into play.” Kate now chairs the annual Oh What Fun event, extending the Life House spirit of welcome to the ladies attending and offering them a night out before the holiday rush begins. “It’s a chance for women be present in the season before worrying about getting everything done.”

Kate’s journey to Cay Galgon Life House exemplifies the ripple effect of generosity. “We are so blessed by Kate’s creative vision,” said Paula Albanese, Executive Director of Cay Galgon Life House. “Her generous spirit and full-circle journey is inspiring. Knowing Cay Galgon personally brought Kate through our doors to serve in a way that first touched her heart as a teen.”

For Kate, her volunteer work represents more than organization and event planning. “All this creativity attracts so many attendees, and all of the lovely proceeds support young mothers and their babies. That’s really what it’s all about.”
