With quiet dedication and a generous open heart, Teena Kerr has helped shape CGLH into the warm, welcoming refuge it is today. She has been a steady and compassionate presence for over a decade, starting her service when the Life House was still known as Mary’s Shelter. Chances are, if you’ve walked through the doors, you’ve felt Teena’s impact.
Teena began by holding and rocking the babies, and her caring nature and resourcefulness led her to quickly take on everything from donating furniture, decorating with cheerful decor, and bringing seasonal touches that make the house feel cozy. “These moms come from tough places,” she said. “They deserve to feel a sense of peace and comfort the moment they step inside.”
For Teena, the work is deeply personal. Born to teenage parents, she sees her service as a way to honor her own story. “My mom and dad were married at a young age, and they’ve been together for over 61 years because of me,” she laughs. “I had a lot of support, but these mothers don’t have that same opportunity. I feel like it’s my turn to give back.”
Teena’s warmth extends to everyone she meets, offers guidance to new volunteers with patience, and leads by example. Her hands-on volunteerism and positive spirit help the Life House make the most of every donation and each individual who is willing to serve. Her spirit of gratitude and generosity infuses all she does at CGLH.
CGLH would not be the same without Teena’s generous spirit of giving from her heart. We feel so fortunate that she chose to be a member of the CGLH family.
