Wendy Wright didn’t set out to work with vulnerable mothers and babies, but when the opportunity arose, it felt like coming home. With a personal story shaped by resilience, a career grounded in service, and a heart for women who often feel invisible, Wendy brings both passion and experience to her role as the new Development Officer at Cay Galgon Life House.
“When we show up as a community to support women, we can help them change their circumstances,” she said. “That’s where real impact begins.”
Wendy is primed and ready to make an impact! After years working in community outreach, case management, fundraising, and development roles, including the 6th Street Shelter, Wendy brings a layered perspective to the Life House team. She thrives on building relationships and isn’t afraid of bold ideas. “The sky’s the limit,” she says with a smile. “I’ve already started brainstorming fundraising projects and community strategies that feel joyful and inclusive, like block parties, family events, and ways to really connect with people.”
A single parent who has navigated the stress and uncertainty of limited resources, Wendy understands the emotional weight that many of the women served by the Life House carry. “I had to do a lot on my own,” she says. “I didn’t have much money, but I had many people around me who believed in me, and that made all the difference. Cay Galgon Life House gives me the opportunity to give back in a way that feels very personal.”
When asked what fuels her commitment, Wendy lights up. “There’s real purpose in contributing to the lives of others, because that’s what we’re meant to do. Living a meaningful life isn’t about money or status. True happiness comes from connections in the community. We’re wired to care for one another, and I’m here to help create more ways for people in this community to do just that.”
Now pursuing a dual master’s degree in social work and nonprofit leadership, Wendy’s drive goes beyond personal experience. She’s passionate about advocacy and building systems that uplift marginalized women. “This organization is amazing, and the team is so loving and caring,” she says. “And I know this is right where I’m supposed to be.”
